album!
DAVID'S RAINDANCE ALBUM
AVAILABLE DIGITALLY FOR THE FIRST TIME!
"AFTERGLOW" FROM RAINDANCE
IS FEATURED SONG ON OUR SOUNDS PAGE

In response to many, many requests over the years,
David's RAINDANCE
album is now available digitally for the first time. You can
download MP3s of all ten tracks, or any that you want, for just 99
cents each.
RAINDANCE, produced by Don Was and
issued in 1984, was a follow up to David's critically acclaimed MISSIN’
TWENTY GRAND. Unlike Twenty
Grand, which features more organic music from piano and
electric/acoustic bass and guitar, RAINDANCE's
sound is far more in the techno-pop vein. The use of
synthesizers, an Emulator, and a Fairlight -- as well as the inclusion
of a Lasley-esque rap number -- put RAINDANCE well
ahead of its
time. One critic wrote, "The strength of this album comes
from
Lasley's..... sense of harmony and poetry." The recording --
particularly "Saved By Love" and "Where Does That Boy Hang Out?" -- was
a big hit in Europe, making the list of Britain’s The Face
magazine’s Top 20 albums of 1984 along with
Prince’s Purple
Rain and Madonna’s Like a Virgin.
To listen to excerpts and to download the songs, visit our CONTACT/SHOP page.

of tracks, click HERE.

Listen to David's "Afterglow" from RAINDANCE
as the Featured Song on our SOUNDS
page.
Here are his comments on the song, which he wrote in 1983:
"Afterglow"
was one of the last songs written for Raindance. I got the
idea
as I was sitting at my acoustic piano in my office at Almo. I
had
been going through sort of a writer's block, and the pressure was
definitely on for a follow up to Missin' Twenty Grand. I
wrote
and demo'd quite a few songs that I loved that were maybe a little too
"artsy" or personal for the A&R people at EMI to
understand.
It was a strange time in the business because in the years between 1982
and 1984, MTV and VH1 had gotten huge, and you needed to have a video
as well as a hit single. I had written two songs that I
especially loved called "Don't Leave Me Behind with My Blue Jeans On"
and "Life Is Not A Paul Strand Photograph." They were passed
over
by EMI, and songs like "Johnny, Where Did Your Girlfriend Go" were
chosen instead, so I was happy when they approved "Afterglow" because
it was at least not as "bubblegum" as "Johnny" was but not as heavy as
"Don't Leave Me Behind." I wrote "Afterglow" in just one
sitting
and demo'd it quickly, and I was pretty sure that it was something the
record label would approve for the album.
Remember, you
can download this and other songs from RAINDANCE HERE.

DAVID'S "I AIN'T GONNA LET YOU BREAK
MY HEART AGAIN"
RECORDED BY RISING STAR LOUISE SETARA
Rising star
Louise Setara's debut CD, Still Waters,
features "I Ain't Gonna Let You Break My Heart Again" written by David
and his sister, Julie. One reviewer described the album by
saying, "Louise may be a teenager, but she’s always been
musically mature, and on Still Waters, the
18-year-old singer
demonstrates a range and emotional depth that belies her youth,
collaborating with such musical icons as Seal and Ladysmith Black
Mambazo, while skillfully tackling covers from songwriting icons such
as Bruce Springsteen (“If I Should Fall”) and Bob
Dylan
(“Make You Feel My Love”)."
"I Ain't Gonna Let You Break My Heart Again" was also recorded by
Bonnie Raitt for her celebrated Nick of Time album,
also available from AMAZON.COM
You can listen to excerpts from Setara's and Raitt's versions of this
song by taking the links above.
