This CD, the U.S. release of a recording
that was first issued in the U.K. in 2000, is special to me because
it contains some favorite vocals of mine, and I wanted it to
be more available in this country.
Because of the reissue of several
of my solo albums, the terrific response to my web site, and
my visibility in my work as a background vocalist, I discovered
a renewed interest in my unreleased work, not only as a songwriter,
but especially as a singer.
If you hear any "bugs"
in any of the performances, by players or singers -- or moi --
please remember that these songs were done like those on my 1981
Demos album (re-issued in 1999 as a CD) in that they were
recorded as, well, demos. Expectations of Love is not
a concept album, like my Missin' Twenty Grand. It's a
collection of songs produced by the songwriters, programmers
or me for presentation to other artists.
But, even though it's not an album
that was conceived as a cohesive project, I tried to pick things
for it that were soulful and sonically pleasing. And when we
listen to any artist sing, whether it's the first take or the
50th, whether it's a big-budget recording or a demos recording,
what ultimately matters is how it makes us feel. And I hope this
work meets your "expectations" of me.
